One morning we looked out our window and saw an amish lady and her four daughters walking, pulling, pushing their horse and buggy up the hill in front of our house. They turned into our driveway with a VERY exhausted horse! Their brakes had locked on their buggy! Did you know that was even possible?! The mom asked to use our phone to call her husband. She wasn't able to contact him, so they unhitched the horse and parked the buggy. They cooled their horse with the garden hose. I thought it was interesting when the oldest daughter said she wanted to cool the horses legs first. After their horse was comfortable, Mommy gave them a ride to their destination.
So if there is a buggy parked in your yard you might as well enjoy it...
Did you know buggies have windshield wipers?
This was a rather "fancy" carriage equipped with 3 horns, a clock, and speedometer!
Their horse had the nicest temperament. He was enjoyable to have for the day.
An amish tow truck..
A few hours later the husband arrived with his driver and trailer loaded with another carriage.
They swapped the buggies.
The amish man took the extra buggy to his wife who was at her sisters house -2 miles down the road. Elainah and David went along because buggy rides are always fun, especially in weather like this. Then Daddy picked them up.
