Alaskan Trip Continued...

One of the main reasons for going to Alaska was to go Coho Salmon fishing.  So on Saturday Daddy, Joshua, and David went out with a guide on the Kenai River at 6:30 am and were back by 10 am with their limit of 3 fish a piece.

In the afternoon we spent a little time at the Kenai City Beach. 

When the tide goes out you can see the mud flats...

Of course when there's mud you can't stay out of it, right? 

Lillia, Elainah, and David decided to venture out! 

  

The mud isn't really "mud", it is more of a slime that you can hardly scrub off!!

That evening we traveled out on the Homer Spit, a piece of land that juts out into the bay.

This is where all the fish waste goes from the fish cleaning station.

On Saturday night we stayed at a campground on a bluff high above a beach overlooking the Cook Inlet.  Far across the water you could see 10,000 foot Mt. Redoubt. 

Everyone enjoyed the hike down to the beach collecting shells and stones.

One of our stops was along the Kasilof River.  

            There's a bear in the tree! Oh never mind, it's just David!

Monday morning we started our day fishing off of the bank of the Kenai River. 

There was a helicopter at a pull off where we stopped to eat lunch.

It  had been ferrying supplies for a power line project in the mountains.

At the Russian River Ferry we tried fishing from the shore.
  It was lots of fun trying, but we didn't catch anything.

 

David had begged daddy to go hiking that evening, so we all hiked the Kenai River Trail
and Canyon Overlook.

The reason the water is such a unique beautiful color of blue is because the glaciers in the mountains melt into the streams.

Of course we can't stay just on the path - we had to do some bush whacking of our own, right?

Coho or Silver Salmon fishing was so fun we decided to go again!

This time Daddy, Joshua, Lillia, and Hope went.

I caught the first three in the morning before I was fully awake (or so Joshua said).

Lillia caught the biggest one. Great job Lillia!

While we were fishing the others decided to try from the shore!
