On Thursday before the shower, Kaitlyn went to the airport to pick up Sarah from Florida, but to her surprise Joanna and Juliana from Arizona had flown in as well. Mommy and Aunt Jennifer went and did the decorating the night before in a beautiful barn we had rented. They did a wonderful job!
It's hard to see in this picture but there are brown paper bags "tied up with string" in the right hand corner. Each guest listed a few of their favorite things/recipes/memories on a bag, signed their name, and then slipped them into an album.
Instead of a guest book everyone signed their name and birthday on a perpetual calendar that Justin and Kaitlyn will enjoy year after year.
To get to know the bride and groom better the theme was "a few of his/her favorite things."
Aunt Jennifer made this door with a few of Justin and Kaitlyn's favorite things on it.
As everyone arrived they presented their gift to Kaitlyn. This allowed one on one time for conversation with the guest. Also it saved about an hour of "s..l..o..w..." gift opening during the shower, when no one can see, and everyone tends to get bored.
Aunt Rebekah did an awesome job on the food. She served taco salads with your choice of chicken or seasoned beef, beans, rice, chips and cheese, plus many fancy toppings!
We had a couple of games testing our kitchen knowledge.
Everyone worked in groups of 4.
The first game was called "This Quiz Takes the Cake".
You had to guess a kind of cake that matched the clue.
For instance:
A topsy turvy cake _____________
(Pineapple upside down cake)
Favorite cake of mice___________
(Cheesecake)
A kitchen measurement___________
(Cupcake)
Comes around every year_________
(Birthday Cake)
Not a vegetable______________
(Fruitcake)
The winners received boxes of cake mix!
The second game was "Queen of the Kitchen" with practical kitchen questions.
1. What should you do if you have over sweetened a dish?
2. How many tablespoons are in a stick of butter?
3. How much liquid does a standard cube in an ice tray hold?
4. When chocolate gets that "white stuff"on it, it means what?
5. If the yolks of hard boiled eggs are greenish, what's wrong?
(Would you like to know the answers?????)
The winners received fancy bath and body hand soap.
