On Monday we made 250+ doughnuts with Keepers! Cream-filled and Glazed Doughnuts, Blueberry Cake Doughnuts, and Cinnamon Sugar Doughnut Holes. This was a messy meeting with all the flour and powdered sugar flying around so we had it outside in our garage. Lillian and Becca, some of our Amish friends, came and started a few batches of dough so they could rise before the other club members arrived.
Once the Keepers Girls arrived we rolled out the dough and started cutting out doughnuts!!!
We only had one doughnut cutter so we used the top of glasses as well.

Lillian suggested using our table extention leaves for the doughnuts to rise on.
After the doughnuts were cut out we let them rise again...guess where? In the back of our van! :) The van was nice and warm inside so it made a perfect place for them to rise!
After the doughnuts rose we fried them.
After we cut out the doughnuts we poked each one with a fork. The amish ladies said this prevents air bubbles from forming while frying. If they get air bubbles they won't flip properly.
Filling the doughnuts with cream... Yummy! :)
We bought a 5 gal. bucket of pre-made doughnut cream from an Amish bakery down the road.
Becca and Lillian brought their doughnut fillers. You poke a doughnut on the spout and pump the handle twice and then your doughnut is filled with delicious icing! :)
Uh oh, the Farmer's Wife seems to have found the cream bucket! :)
After the doughnuts were fried and filled they are rolled in doughnut sugar! Talk about good!!! :)
Faith wore Hannah's apron to Keepers and as she was rolling doughnuts in powdered sugar she got a phone call from her just-married older sister! :)

ReplyDeleteOh, yes, and I will also add that I am glad that poking holes in the doughnuts with a fork was mentioned...several of our doughnuts had huge air pockets in them after they were made...needless to say, I felt I was being cheated out of a doughnut! ;D
