Cinco de Mayo Banquet - Keepers

Another Keepers year has come to a close.  Our badge ceremony this time was a Cinco de Mayo banquet on May 5th.  Aunt Rebekah and Sis. Annette prepared a wonderful Mexican meal with the help of the Keepers girls and their moms.

 Every table had three different kinds of salsa and tortilla chips for folks to snack on before they were served.

 

 Each member brought several different samples of the projects they've completed this past year for the families to view.

Before we were presented with our badges and certificates we sang a song in Spanish.

 Sis. Annette did a wonderful job planning and preparing for the banquet

 I also want to say a big thank you to all the Keeper mothers for their dedication and support!  They are the ones behind the scenes who make these banquets so special for us girls.  Without them we wouldn't have such an awesome Keepers group and I'm really thankful for all they've done for us over the years!

 

 



Happy Birthday David!!!

 I can't believe that this sweet little baby boy...

 

 ...is now grown up into such a handsome little fellow!!

 

 David celebrated his fourth birthday this past week

 

 He was so excited to get a pool from Grandpoppy and Grandmommy!

 

Benjamin thought it was a great present too!!

 

David brings such joy to our home with his adorable grin and cute comments! 

I can't imagine life without my little brother!!

Metal Stamping - Keepers

Our most recent Keeper's meeting was held at Aunt Melissa's house where we learned how to stamp on metal.  I've been wanting to learn how to do metal stamping, so this was one of my favorite meetings!

 

There was a large varitey of items to stamp. 
Some of us chose washers, dog tags, spoons, forks, or knives.

 

Aunt Melissa had this example of a stamped fork for her herb garden...

 



Aunt Jennifer is really good at metal stamping so she came to show us some tips. 

This is a spoon made into a necklace charm.

Lillia chose a spoon.  First you have to smash them out flat on a hard surface like a concrete block.  We laid her spoon on an old sock or rag and then covered it with a piece of leather.  When you smash out your spoon make sure it is covered by the leather, so your spoon doesn't have dents from the hammer.

 



Now it's time to pick out what you want to write on your metal piece.

To make sure her lettering was even on the spoon, Aunt Jennifer used a piece of tape as a "line."

There also were wooden hearts we could stamp on as well.

 

We also made necklaces from washers and scrapbooking paper.

  

 First we traced our washers onto the paper which we cut out.  We then glued them onto the washers and took a nail file and sanded down the edges of the paper.

 Aunt Melissa put a layer of glossy accents on our necklace washers which had to dry for 24 hours...so at our next meeting we finished the necklaces!

 

At our second meeting Aunt Melissa showed us how to put the clamps and findings on the ends of our necklaces.
