Cherry Mountain, Lowes Store, & Cold Brook Falls



Before driving on to Maine, Daddy wanted to take us to a few more places in New Hampshire.

Hiking Cherry Mountain was first on the agenda.

 

"One day up there we'd went back in the woods, and it got about dinner time. We always carried a jug of--of hot chocolate, kind of warms you up where if you get turned around somewhere, and have to stay out overnight. We'd always carry a little lunch. And we'd hunt up through the Presidential range, Mount Washington, Adams, over Cherry Mountain, so forth, a beautiful country. And we'd went way up into the Caul's Gap, and up in that way. And we'd been up way high, and we'd hunted up to about eleven o'clock."

We packed a picnic lunch and ate at the top before we hiked back down.

After Cherry Mountain we drove over to Lowes Store.  On our way there we saw some turkeys...

We stopped at Lowes Store for a picture before we went hiking at Cold Brook Falls.

"Standing not long ago with a--a friend of mine that I had the privilege of leading to Christ, Bert Call, up in New Hampshire, a hunting partner, we was standing by Cold Brook Falls up in the Adirondack, and it was such a mammoth big falls. I taken my family last year up there to look at it. Way back off the road, you have to hike back to get to it. And when we seen that blue-green water pouring with such mighty power out of the mountains, and gushing down over the rocks, Bert stood there and looked at me, and he said, "Gee, Billy, it makes a man feel just so little," he measured about a quarter of an inch on his fingers. And I said, "That's right, Bert." Now, that was all he knowed of getting into the Presence of God, to see His creation."

Of course Hope thought she should go over the rock instead of around it like everyone else :P



 



Adventurous Hope was the first one to the top of the falls

 

"I remember one time we went up through a little brook across from Lowes, and he was going to show me a certain brook that run down a falls. To me it had Niagara beat by a million miles. And he said to me, "Doesn't it make you feel little?"  What was it? Was to see the handwork of the Almighty God, get alone by yourself, take your Bible, study."

It actually did taste really good!

 

 

There was an interesting tube system set up in the trees to bring the sap into this little shed at the bottom of the trail where it gets boiled down into maple syrup.

We camped in New Hampshire for one more night before we continued on to Maine.  We spent most of the day driving, as we watched the rain fall steadily until we reached Bangor, Maine were we spent the night.  Thankfully the rainy weather cleared up so that we could enjoy the rest of our stay in Acadia National Park.
