Hay Creek Festival

This past Friday we went to the annual Hay Creek Festival at the Historic Joanna Furnace near Morgantown, PA.  Each year over 1500 volunteers bring the iron making community of Joanna Furnace back to life.  There are traditional crafts, living history presentations, vintage working equipment, classic steam and gas engines, antique vehicles and tractors for all to see and enjoy during the three day event.

Watching how books were bound back in the 18th century...
The binding process back then was much more complex and time consuming then today's.
Hand sewing the pages together made the completion of one book take approximately 10 hours.

Making sauerkraut...an interesting little tid-bit we learned was unless you use Kosher or Sea-Salt your cabbage will turn brown.
